The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) yesterday announced a Maximum Retail Price (MRP) for turmeric powder at Rs. 750 per kg, due to the growing demand in the market for the spice, which in turn has led to a shortage.
The CAA issued the relevant Gazette last evening, ordering that no importer, producer, distributor, or trader shall sell, expose, offer for sale, or display for sale turmeric powder above the MRP. There has been a massive demand for turmeric powder after its use was popularised due to its antioxidant and immune-boosting properties.
