The job appointments to unemployed graduates is now being implemented countrywide at the divisional level without the usual grand national ceremonies in accordance with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s instructions. After the stringent, multi-level, vetting of applications, the list of appointees has been finalised and their appointment letters are being sent via the respective divisional secretariats.
The recruited graduates are required to report to their respective Divisional Secretaries within three days of receiving the appointment letters, a communique from the President’ Media Office said yesterday.
The communique stated that the distribution of appointment letters among graduates coming under the employment scheme for unemployed graduates has now reached its final stage. “Those expecting employment under this scheme should have completed the first degree course approved by the University Grants Commission or a diploma course approved by the UGC as a similar qualification before 31.12.2019,” the communique added.
The President’s Media Office disclosed that more than 70,000 job applications were received under this programme of which 56,000 applications had been deemed as being completed correctly according to the required format. “These applications were subjected to investigation by several institutions including the UGC,” the communique said. “After rejecting applications which had not fulfilled the major guidelines, although they conformed to initial qualifications including the degree or diploma certificate, only 42,000 applicants had gained suitability for appointment. “Arrangements have been made for them to receive their appointment letters through the Sri Lanka Postal Department Speed Post courier service covering all districts. Posting of appointment letters to successful applicants was due to be completed by Monday March 2 afternoon. The Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration is the official appointing authority. Those who receive appointments are required to report to the relevant Divisional Secretary within three days of receiving the appointment letter. The appointment will be cancelled if they fail to report for training within 7 days of receiving the appointment letter.
The communique further said: “Each appointee will receive a monthly allowance of Rs.20,000 during the one year training period. After completion of training they will be given permanent government appointments with pension benefits. The appointments will be made on a district basis and five years’ service in the district where the first appointment is made will be compulsory.”
