Rajitha remanded over death threats made to Chamal

The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) had arrested a suspect on charges of having threatened State Defence Minister Chamal Rajapaksa and having sent him death threats via SMS.

The arrested suspect was produced before courts and the Colombo Additional Magistrate Neranjana de Silva had ordered him to be remanded until the 06th.

The suspect was arrested and held for 72 hours on detention orders prior to being produced in court.

The remanded suspect is Wijenayake Kankanamlage Rajitha, a resident of Seelagama Balangoda.

He was produced in court on charges of secretly obtaining details of state officials and state leaders and sending them threatening SMS.

Based on a complaint lodged by Minister Chamal Rajapaksa, the CID had called for telephone records and following the investigations, the suspect had been arrested last 20th. He was detained for 72 hours on detention orders under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA). Subsequent to interrogation the suspect was produced before court yesterday (24).
