Coronavirus: 14 patients still under observation

Sri Lanka has not identified any new confirmed cases of Coronavirus until yesterday while 14 patients are still under observation, Health authorities said yesterday.

According to the situation report issued by the Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health yesterday, the 14 individuals include seven Sri Lankans and seven foreign nationals.

They have been admitted to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID/IDH)(10), National Hospital of Sri Lanka (1), Teaching Hospital Ragama (1), Teaching Hospital Karapitiya(1) and Ratnapura Hospital(1). Meanwhile, it was reported that the 33 Sri Lankan students sent to the Diyathalawa Army camp hospital are still being quarantined continuously.

According to latest reports, the death toll from the novel coronavirus outbreak soared to 811 around the globe witg nearly 35,000 people being infected with the virus so far.

The Epidemiology Unit also states that in the current Sri Lankan context, there is no scientific justification for the general public including children to wear face masks.
