SLT employees to boycott company events attended by high officials

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) employees will be boycotting the official events, ceremonies and meetings organsied by the top management with the participation of the Minister of Information & Communications Technology,and board of directors as a mark of protest against Chairman Kumarsimghe Sirisena and top officials still holding on to their positions.

All SLT employees have been urged not to invite the Minister of Information & Communications Technology, and board of directors headed by SLT Chairman Kumarsimghe Sirisena who were responsible for dragging the company into an abyss.

This decision was taken by Telecommunication Engineers Union(TEU) as a mark of protest against “messing up the roles of operation and governance of the company” and SLT Chairman’s disobdiance of going against the Circular PS/SP/SB/Circular/02/2019 issued by the presidential secretary rqustin all top level officials to step down from thir high posts.

The Secretary to the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, under which Sri Lanka Telecom PLC had been gazetted, has not yet advised or requested SLT Board of Directors to resign from their positions to accommodate new Board of Directors.

Mr Kumarasinghe Sirisena), who functioned as Chairman of SLT prior to issuance of the above referred Circular, remains in his position and has been continuing to make decisions on behalf of Board of Directors of SLT, TEU revealed.

The TEU is yet to receive a reply fom the President toa letter sent to him by the union urging him to advice the subject Minister to submit clarifation relating to Mr Kumrasimghe Sirisena’s stance of holding on to SLT chairman ship. ‘

According to the information available to TEU, the board members of SLT have already tendered their resignations honoring the Circular issued by presidential Secretary.

However, the remaining GOSL appointed Board member (Mr. P. G. Kumarasinghe Sirisena), who functioned as Chairman of SLT prior to issuance of the above referred Circular, remains in his position and has been continuing to make decisions on behalf of Board of Directors of SLT
