Sri Lanka Customs vouch for safety of Colombo Port scanners

Sri Lanka Customs reiterates that the scanners installed at the Colombo Port for the inspection of imported and exported goods in containers possessed safety system and it is not harmful for the human body.

The Customs spokesperson, Additional Customs Director Sunil Jayaratne noted that the container drivers have been briefed on this along with the National Atomic Energy Authority.

He said that the operation of scanners had been suspended recently due to a strike by container drivers complaininglack of safety measurers when operating scanners which are unfavourable health conditions.

Mr Jayaratne added the scanners will be used for the inspection of containers from the 1st of January 2020.
