Swiss Embassy staffer’s abduction matter to be tackled at diplomatic level

The alleged abduction of a local staffer at the Swiss Embassy will be tackled at diplomatic level, Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardana, reiterated on Wednesday 11.

He noted that he held discussions with the Ambassador of Switzerland to Sri Lanka at the Foreign Ministry on several occasions on the matter.

Meanwhile, the Swiss Embassy staffer who was allegedly involved in the incident was questioned by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for over 5 hours on her second day of recording a statement.

It has been revealed that there is a contradiction between the initial statements made by her and the Swiss Embassy and the statement she provided during the CID interrogations

In the meantime Swiss Embassy in Colombo denied various reports highlighted that the Swiss Ambassador to Sri Lanka has been recalled to Switzerland by it’s foreign Ministry. However, the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs has categorically denied these claims.

the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs quoted bya loacal media institution as saying that Swiss Ambassador to Sri Lanka. Hanspeter Mock has not been recalled and that the reports are not accurate.

The statement further noted that the “Swiss ambassador to Sri Lanka is currently fulfilling his duties in Colombo”
