COPE dissolved with prorogation of Parliament

The Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) has been dissolved as a result of the prorogation of Parliament.

Chairman of the committee Sunil Handunneththi said that COPE has been dissolved and he is no more the Chairman of the committee.

He said that the committee was dissolved as Parliament was prorogued last night.

Handunneththi said that a meeting scheduled for today by COPE to discuss the final report of the forensic audit conducted by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka on the Central Bank Bond Scam, was cancelled.

The Presidential Commission appointed to investigate the Central Bank Bond Scam has recommended to the Central Bank to conduct the forensic audit.

The Presidential Commission has informed COPE about the recommendation and accordingly, the COPE Committee, which met on March 22, recommended to the Central Bank to submit to the Committee a full report on how the forensic audit was conducted.

Since COPE was unable to submit the Seventh Parliament COPE report on the Central Bank Bond Scam to the parliament before the parliament session ended, the Committee had decided to consider the report during the 8th parliament session.
