Don’t give nominations to monks – Chief Prelates

A group of senior monks belonging to the three Chapters are scheduled to make a request of all political parties not to give nominations to any Buddhist monk at the upcoming general election.

These chief monks have already briefed Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa regarding this decision.

Doing so damages the Buddha Sasana

These chief monks have told the Prime Minister that by appointing these monks as MPs, Provincial Councilors or Local Government representatives, it harms the Sambuddha Sasana.

This group of senior monks is scheduled to discuss this matter with President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa prior to the general election and also discuss it with the party leaders of all political parties, it is reported.
