A fire has engulfed a forested area in Ettampititya, Pannagala area earlier today (05), the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said.
Speaking to RepublicNext, Assistant Director-General of the Disaster Management Centre for the Badulla district E. M. L. U. Kumara said that the burnt-out area was an abandoned forest farm which was under the Department of Wildlife Conservation.
Accordingly, an area of 14 hectares has been destroyed by the fire.
However, the fire had been doused with the help of the Sri Lanka Air Force and Sri Lanka Army by 2.30 pm this afternoon.
Meanwhile Speaking to RepublicNext, Air force spokesman Gihan Seneviratne said that the Air Force deployed 20 airmen to douse the fire.
