Hambantota Mayor Eraj Fernando was sentenced to a five-year imprisonment by the Hambantota High Court today for threatening a group of UNP MPs.
The mayor brandished a pistol at a group of UNP MPs who visited Mattala in 2014 on a fact finding mission.
The mayor later claimed the pistol was a toy pistol.
Eraj Ravindra Fernando was re-elected as the Mayor of the Hambantota Municipal Council in 2018.
