US Congressman warns China out to help Sri Lanka monitor citizens

A US Congressman has warned that China is looking to help Sri Lanka monitor its citizens.

Congressman Ted Yoho said that some countries seem to be drifting away from US leadership and are tilting towards China.

He noted that, for example in Sri Lanka the Chinese are to offer the Government a way to monitor Sri Lankan citizens.

Yoho represents Florida’s 3rd Congressional District and also serves as a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

China has a large presence in Sri Lanka and is funding several Government projects.

Fears of China offering the technology to Sri Lanka to monitor its citizens surfaced following President Maithripala Sirisena’s visit to China earlier this year. (Colombo Gazette)
