South Asia Delegation of the European Parliament to Sri Lanka, headed by Ms. Heidi Hautala, Vice President of the European Parliament called on the peaker Hon. Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena in Parliament yesterday (01).

 The delegation of the European Parliament included members from Poland, Finland, Germany and Lithuania.

The speaker pointed out that the government has taken measures to alleviate the economic crisis in Sri Lanka. Also, the Speaker pointed out that many positive measures have been implemented in the recent past, such as the adoption of the Anti-Corruption Act, the establishment of a budget office in the Parliament to carry out financial control activities more efficiently and transparently.
Matters such as increasing women's representation in politics, reconciliation activities were also discussed during the meeting.
The delegation also engaged in a Parliament tour. Subsequently, they met the members of the Sri Lanka-EU Parliamentary Friendship Association and then joined the luncheon meeting hosted by the Speaker.
Minister Hon. Wijedasa Rajapakse, State Ministers Hon. Diana Gamage, Hon. Tenuka Vidanagamage, Members of Parliament Hon. Faizal Kassim and Hon. Kapila Athukorala were present on the occasion. Also, the Secretary General of Parliament Mrs. Kushani Rohandeera, Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Mr. Chaminda Kularatne were also present.
