Italy to assist Sri Lanka  in  solid waste power generation

Italian government expressed willingness to provide technical assistance and it is ready to make investments to generate electricity using solid waste in Sri Lanka which is a growing issue in the country.

Italian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Rita Mannella gave this assurance to the Power and Energy Minister Ravi Karunanayake during their discussions in Colombo recently..

The Ambassador said that Sri Lanka could face the growing demand for electricity in the future and that there is a need to prepare for it by reducing the generation of waste, ensuring high-quality recycling and using residual waste for efficient and clean energy generation.

Italian government is willing to provide the technical know to Sri Lanka in generating power using waste-to-energy (WTE) systems.

They discussed the possibility of introducing a waste disposal plant capable of recycling between 100 and 300 tons of waste.

Minister Karunanayake expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for focusing on such a low cost, environmentally friendly power generation system to meet the future demand for electricity in Sri Lanka.
