The new Acting General Manager of Bank of Ceylon Sudath Gunasekara yesterday assumed office whilst at People’s Bank it was Bonniface Silva and not K.B. Rajapakse as earlier reported by Daily FT.
Rajapakse informed Daily FT that there hasn’t been any official declaration or letter of appointment to this effect.
The new Acting General Manager at People’s Bank Bonniface Silva was previously Senior Deputy General Manager – Banking Operations.
He joined the bank in 1987 and counts over 32 years of experience and deep-rooted knowledge in banking operations.
The duo replaced career bankers Senarath Bandara at BOC and Rasitha Gunawardana at People’s Bank.
The Finance Ministry decided to remove the incumbent General Managers to re-energise the two State banks as part of kick-starting the economy and supporting the private sector, especially Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
As the People’s Bank’s Senior Deputy General Manager – Banking Operations, Silva oversaw the functions of four main divisions presided over by separate heads responsible for the activities of Channel Management division, the regulatory unit of the branch network of 737 and 500-plus supplementary network composed of ATMs, CDMs and kiosks, marketing and research, information technology and the support services division.
Silva’s career experience encompasses managing branch business banking at all levels starting from Branch Manager, to Regional Manager, to Zonal Assistant General Manager, to Deputy General Manager and Senior Deputy General Manager – Banking Operations.
With extensive local and international training/exposure on the subject matter of his specialty, Silva is a degree holder (B.A) from the University of Peradeniya and has a professional banking qualification AIB – Sri Lanka. He is also an Associate Member of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka.
BOC new Acting General Manager Sudath Gunasekara was previously the Senior Deputy General Manager (International, Treasury and Investment) and has a 40-year career at the bank.
