Kreation enters into tourism following success in hand looms

The aptitude to persist in the face of adversity might be what separates the every man and the great. This was the guiding principal of the founder of Kreation,’ Importers& Manufacturer of Hand loom Textiles Mr.K.Kumaravel.

He started business selling apparel factory surplus textiles and cut pieces in the late nineteen eighties.

Today he owns three Kreation handloom retail shops in Colombo and another one in Kandy and a handloom weaving factory in Hanwella , makes it one of the largest single-owner retailer in the country.

The ‘Kreation,’ Importers& Manufacturer of Handloom Textiles with a resounding success in business after around three decades of ups and downs has ventured into tourist hotel industry with the opening of a new boutique style hotel in Colombo3, on Wednesday 5.

Tourism and Aviation Minister, Prasanna Ranatunga was the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the Kreation Hotel ,a welcoming retreat for travelers and businessmen seeking a quiet, relaxing place amidst the hustle and bustle of Colombo.

K.Kumaravel Managing Director of Kreation said that he initiated this new venture with the aim of earning much needed foreign exchange for the country and generate employment for youth by promoting tourism .

He placed his confidence on boutique hotels to take the tourism industry forward. Boutique hotels are likely to attract special segment of tourists and his new hotel will be able to cater their needs. .

While boutique properties are usually booked through the Internet and are well regulated due to user reviews, travelers will become aware of high-quality boutique hotels, he added.

My team has understood and constantly focused on the finer details of how our guests experience our hospitality, he said adding that this experience driven approach has been our key strength and a driver in everything we do.

This boutique hotel located in Kollupitiya (also called Colpetty) offers a total 10 rooms with a restaurant providing mainly south Indian food for 50 persons at a time, Managing Director of ‘Kreation’ Hotels K. Krishan said.

He noted that they strive to provide the services and amenities that local and foreign travelers may need at reasonable prices.

Mr Krishan noted that boutique hotels, the new stars of the hospitality industry, offering incomparable personalized services, characterized by fancy design and prestigious furnishings, located mostly in the heart of trendy cities.

‘Kreation’ Hotels is following this new trend he said adding that an increasingly globalized and standardized world affecting inevitably with its dynamics the hospitality industry, authenticity is the new change of gear.

Outlining his business success, K.Kumaravel Managing Director of Kreation said that he had to toil hard to sell yarn and apparel factory excess fabric and cut pieces at a small shop in Keyzer Street, Colombo at the beginning of his career .

But after several years in business including buying and selling, he decided to start his own handloom manufacturing venture.

Passed down throughout the history handloom weaving is an art that is richly embedded in Sri Lankan culture and tradition.

Kreation employs around 300 weavers in handloom in Gampaha and it has taken measures to ensure that these villagers are able to generate an income for themselves through a buy back guarantee approach, he said.

They have also penetrated this market as the benefits to these villagers far outweigh any costs incurred. He said adding that “It has revitalized the market for handlooms and ensures that the villagers are able to sustain themselves.

These villagers are being provided training in weaving and handloom industry insights to manufacture customized products such as saris, kurthas, lungis, shirts and sarongs etc.

However, Kreation Handlooms team has worked tirelessly to bring the traditional art of weaving to the attention of a present day customers through its innovative and unique designs.
