Prototype solar panel production  programme gets underway

Rising demand for solar panels in Sri Lanka has compelled the government to venture into the manufacturing of prototype solar panels in the country.

Ministry of Science Technology and Research has launched a training programme to facilitate prototype solar panel production shortly.

This five year programme will be implemented at a cost of Rs240 million with the aim of facilitating the creation of a prototype solar panel production by providing research and development facilities.

It will be carried out at the universities of Kelaniya, Jaffna, Peradeniya and Ruhuna universities.

Eight Doctorates will be awarded on this subject under this training programme.
2000 Youths will be trained on solar panel maintenance and repairing and it wil enable to acquire NVQ level 1v certification after successfully concluding the training programme.

MOU for this purpose was signed recently by the Ministry of Science , Techonology and Research, National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) and Sri Lanka Renewable Energy Authority.

In addition School children will be provided with knowledge on solar panel production and energy conservation along with operating simple equipment using solar energy.

Advanced level teachers teaching technology subject will also provided with necessary training on the subject of solar energy and its applications.

This education and training programme will be implemented on a request made by the Education Ministry.
