In the view of Vesak Full Moon Poya day, slaughter and sale of meat have been banned islandwide on the 06th, 07th and 08th of May.
Further, liquor shops, casinos, and betting centers are also informed remain closed on the relevant days, stated the Ministry of Public Administration.
Vesak Full Moon Poya day is celebrated on 07th May, Thursday this year.
The government declared the period from 04th to 08th May as the National Vesak Week.
The national Vesak festival will centralize Olaboduwa Raja Maha Viharaya in Gonapola, Horana.
The ministerial secretary added that a limited number of people will be involved in the national festival due to the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.
