Over 190 Navy personnel infected

A total of 198 Navy personnel are reported to be infected with COVID-19 in Sri Lanka as of 06.00 p.m. today.

Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said the infected Naval officers include 148 from within the Navy Camp in Welisara and 45 who were on leave.

Meanwhile, 13 individuals who had come into contact with the infected officers have also contracted the coronavirus.

Dr. Jasinghe said among the 8 cases of COVID-19 detected so far today, 5 have been identified as Navy personnel who were on leave.

The remaining 3 are persons undergoing quarantine at the Punani quarantine center.

Director General of Health Services further said a total of 596 confirmed COVID -19 cases have been reported in Sri Lanka as of this evening.

Among the confirmed patients, 447 have been identified as active cases and are currently being treated at various hospitals.

The patients are being treated at the National Institute for Infectious Diseases (IDH) in Angoda, the Welikanda, Colombo- North, Iranawila, Kattankudy and Minuwangoda Teaching Hospitals and the Navy Hospital in Colombo.

Dr. Jasinghe went on to say that 317 persons are admitted to a number of hospitals on suspicion of having contracted the virus.

Meanwhile, 8 patients who had contracted the coronavirus have completely recovered and were discharged from hospital today.

A total of 134 patients, including 133 Sri Lankans and one Chinese woman, have recovered so far and have been discharged from hospital.

Dr. Anil Jasinghe added that 7 deaths due to COVID-19 have been reported so far in Sri Lanka. (Colombo Gazette)
