The Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, today demanded action against politicians for negligence which led to the Easter Sunday attacks.
In a special message today to mark one year since the 2019 attacks, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith said that politicians and others from the highest in office to the lowest, must be held accountable.
He said that despite receiving intelligence information prior to the attacks the information was disregarded.
“No leader can be allowed to play with the lives of the people,” he asserted.
The Archbishop of Colombo said that ongoing investigations into the attack initiated by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa must be strengthened.
He appealed to the President not to succumb to any pressure and ensure the investigations move forward.
The Archbishop of Colombo said that historically most investigations have been swept under the carpet. (Colombo Gazette)
