Consultant specialist Dr. Paba Palihawadana says that there is a decline in the number of PCR tests in the country, concurrent to the declining numbers of samples received.
Noting that most individuals at quarantine centres have now been cleared to return to their homes, Dr. Palihawadana said testing is only carried out on those coming from overseas.
She also noted that the number of samples received in the recent past did not exceed their daily testing capacity.
Possibility of clusters re-emerging
Meanwhile, Dr. Jayaruwan Bandara, Director of the Medical Research Institute (MRI) says that the existence of asymptomatic cases are possible.
He says that if the public does not adhere to safety regulations, there is a risk of clusters re-emerging because of this.
