President Maithrpala Sirisena is very much likely to announce his candidacy to contest the upcoming presidential election under the SLFP banner, SLFP stalwart with close connections to the president said.
President Sirisena will be expecting to take several stern actions against several veteran leaders alleged to have been committed financial scams in the island.
He said that the President will create political history by making the presidential election one horse race after sending them out from the field for foul play.
At the SLFP’s 68th anniversary celebrations held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, Colombo recently he declared yesterday that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party’s primary focus is victory at the next parliamentary elections rather than the presidential election.
He noted that the main centre of power was now in Parliament and with the government rather than with the presidency.
President Sirisena said that there is a much corrupted, aristocrat political class operating secretly in the country.
This secret political class, which brings much havoc to the country, should be revealed to people, he added.
He added that it was important to reveal the perpetrators of the infamous Central Bank Bond Scam which disgraced the current government in an unrecoverable way. He added that those who assume themselves to be saints are already preparing for the next Presidential election, but in the near future information could come to light.
He went on to note that documents required to seek extradition of Arjuna Mahendran have been prepared and they have information to put away individuals more powerful than Arjuna Mahendran.
These sentiments expressed by the President, have given red light signal to masses hinting what he is planning to do in the coming weeks, political analysts said.
