Japan is ready to provide full support to Sri Lanka to face global terrorism, Japan's State Minister for Foreign Affairs Ms. Toshiko Abe said today.
During a special discussion held with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at Temple Trees Wednesday on counter terrorism measures and regional security cooperation, the visiting Minister said Sri Lanka and Japan directing attention on signing a defense agreement between the two countries would be an important step in preventing international terrorist activities from seeping into the country.
Premier Wickremesinghe has expressed gratitude for Japan�s assistance to Sri Lanka in counterterrorism in both equipment and training.
During the bilateral discussion, Mr. Wickremesinghe explained the discussions held with the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the tripartite arrangement between India, the Maldives and Sri Lanka on counterterrorism.
Ideas were also exchanged regarding the implementation of a joint plan with India and Japan for the development of several sectors in Sri Lanka including the highways.
Ambassador of Japan in Sri Lanka, Akira Sugiyama, Embassy Staff Officer Takeshi Osaki and Japan Foreign Affairs Ministry officials Takahiro Shiota and Tetsuo Kitada were also present.
