The Ministry of Finance and Central Bank delegation amidst their busy schedules made provision for a comprehensive briefing at the IMF Headquarters, Washington DC on the debt restructuring process by the legendary Lee Buchheit who has worked on more than two dozen sovereign-debt restructurings. He led the legal teams advising Greece in the 2012 restructuring of government bonds totaling more than 206 billion euros which was the largest sovereign-debt workout in history.
The members of the high-powered Advisory Group Dr Shantha Devarajan (Professor of the practice of International Development at Georgetown University and former acting Chief Economist of the World Bank Group), Dr Sharmini Coorey (former Deputy Director, Africa Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Dr. Indrajith Coomaraswamy (former Governor of the Central Bank and Head of the Economic Affairs Division of the Commonwealth Secretariat) took part in the briefing virtually.
