Sri Lanka signs agreement with India to develop a solar power plant in Sampur

Sri Lanka and India signed an agreement for the establishment of a Solar Power Plant in Sampur as a joint venture at the Ministry of Finance yesterday.

The agreement for the joint development was signed between National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) of India Limited, India’s largest integrated energy company and the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

The agreement was signed under the patronage of Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Power and Energy Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi and was also attended by Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Gopal Baglay.

The Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka said in a Twitter message that the agreement was signed by four ministers.

The High Commission in a Tweet said that the agreement is a testament to the strength of economic cooperation between India and Sri Lanka for mutual prosperity through everything including renewable energy cooperation.
