The Government has sought India’s support at the upcoming session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), where a resolution on the country is being mooted.
India is one of the Member States on the 47-Member Council.
India has remained non-committal to the Government’s request so far, the Daily FT learns.
The request from the Government comes as Sri Lanka gets ready to welcome Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan on a two-day official visit next week. Pakistan, too, is a member of the UNHRC this year.
Members of the Council serve for a period of three years.
