The Colombo Stock Exchange ended trading on a positive sentiment of investos today (January 9) recording its highst turnover since 2008 with John Keells Holding‘s major share transaction, officials said.
The All Share Price Index gained 88.71 points to close at 5,987 while the S&P SL20 Index gained 48.31 to close at 2,830.
The stock exchange recorded a turnover of Rs. 23.6 billion, its highest turn over since 2008.
According to the official disclosure by John Keells Holding submitted to the CSE, John Keell’s second-largest investor, Malaysia’s Khazanah’s investment arm Broga Hill Investments Limited, had sold 141,854,717 shares of John Keells, at Rs. 160.00 per share today, to Citigroup Global Markets Limited.
An Eminent Economist noted that there was a major transaction in John Keells.
He added that the ownership of a 10.76% stake of John Keells changed hands. He stated that Citigroup Global Markets Limited purchased 141,854, 717 shares of John Keells at Rs. 160.00 per share today
