SLT chairmanKumarasinghe Sirisena asked to resign immediately

Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) chairmanship is still under the wings of PG Kumarasinghe Sirisena despite a letter sent by the principal share holder of the company demanding him to step down from the post.

The board of directors of the including the chairman should resign after the change of government paving the way for the president to reconstitute the SLT board of directors by appointing the government nominated directors.

The accepted practice was to appoint the government nominated director as the chairman of the state owned entity with the consent of all other directors, Telecommunication Engineers Union leader said.

Former Urban Development Authority Chairman Nimal Perera will be the government nominee director for the post of SLT chairman; he said adding that he is revealing this new chairman’s appointment with responsibility based on reliable information.

Almost all 18 trade unions representing employees of the company vehemently protested against the greedy stance of holding on to the high post by Kumarasinghe Sirisena,

SLT employees will be boycotting the official events, ceremonies and meetings organised by the top management with the participation of the Minister of Information & Communications Technology, and board of directors as a mark of protest against Chairman Kumarsinghe Sirisena and top officials still holding on to their positions.

All SLT employees have been urged not to invite the Minister of Information & Communications Technology, and board of directors headed by SLT Chairman Kumarsinghe Sirisena who were responsible for dragging the company into an abyss.

This decision was taken by Telecommunication Engineers Union(TEU) as a mark of protest against “messing up the roles of operation and governance of the company” and SLT Chairman’s disobedience to government’s directive .
