Chamber of Tourism and Industry thanks the Government, Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Prasanna Ranatunga and relevant agencies for making arrangements to open the international airports to tourists.
The tourism industry in this country has been subjected to severe hardship during the past years. The 30-year armed conflict, tsunami, Easter Sunday attacks and then the COVID-19 epidemic have had a crippling effect on the industry.
At present there are around three million people who are in the tourism industry in this country who are affected due to COVID-19 since last March. The opening of airports for tourists will provide relief to the industry while bringing in the much-needed foreign exchange.
The Chamber is optimistic that the opening of airports under strict health guidelines will help the industry to come back to normalcy during the coming months, says Chamber of Tourism and Industry President A.M. Jaufer.
