Cabinet has approved the appointing of an Expert Committee to formulate a National Trade Policy.
A proposal made by Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardana, to appoint an Expert Committee representing all relevant parties to formulate a new National Trade Policy appropriate to the current institution, was approved, Cabinet spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said.
He said that the National Trade Policy approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on 1 August 2017 was not formulated properly in consultation with all relevant parties.
He said that a properly formulated trade policy is especially important, so that there would be proper scrutiny of international trade agreements, and that all future agreements are done in a manner that it is beneficial to the country.
