The elephant story at the Dehiwala Zoo is one of sorrow which has continued for decades. Chained, stabbed with bullhooks, made to dance and do circus acts which thankfully ended recently after much protests.

However,they continue to languish in small areas dominated by boolhooks and some continue to remain chained swaying back and forth due to stress, something that is visible most times when you visit.
They deserve a life of freedom and independence in a sanctuary surrounded by trees and with acres to walk free in.
Their time for this should be now. Educate others, stay away from visiting places with captive animals, speak out for their freedom when ever possible.
