Colombo Archbishop to hold special ceremony seeking Our Lady’s intervention to protect Sri Lanka from the Coronavirus

His Eminence, Most Rev. Dr. Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, the Archbishop of Colombo will hold a special Religious Ceremony to make a vow to Our Lady of Lanka seeking her intervention in protecting our country and the whole world from the Corona Virus.

There is a historical background for seeking Our Lady’s help in times of trials and tribulations. During World War II former Archbishop, Marie Masson made a vow to Mother Mary to protect our country and after the war Cardinal Cooray (Servant of God) built the Tewatte Basilica church as a fulfilment of that vow.

This time too our present Cardinal will make a vow at this crucial moment of our country. Cardinal, several Bishops and few other priests will officiate the ceremony and we appeal to all our Catholics to participate in it actively from their homes. The National Rupavahini Cooperation will telecast the service live.

Due to the Curfew and the prevailing situation posing the threat of infection, we don't encourage people to come and cover this religious ceremony. Rupavahini is ready to give you a Clean Feed and all the photographs pertaining to this ceremony would be made available to the media.

The special ceremony will be held:

Date :- Friday, 3rd April

Time :- 11 am.

Duration :- About 40 minutes.

Venue :- Basilica Church, Tewatte, Ragama.
