Sri Lanka has ventured into the production of ventilators to be used in local hospitals treating corona virus infected persons numbering 146 at present, official sources said.
Locally manufactured Ventilation Machines were introduced for the first time in Sri Lanka today (01).
200 Ventilation Machines will be manufactured locally and be handed over to hospitals countrywide.
Three Sri Lankan inventors had produced the ventilators without any financial sponsorship and it only cost them between Rs. 15,000 to 18,000 to turnout the machine
The Prime Ministers Media Division revealed that around 10 to 15 such Ventilation Machines will be produced daily.
The inventors are Consumer Affairs Authority Directors Thushan Gunawardena and Viraj Perera and Chamika Gamage, a Graduate in Electronics at the Moratuwa University.
In addtion, two new Polymerase chain reaction devices or PCR devices used to conduct tests to detect patients who test positive to COVID-19 were handed over to the Health Ministry today(01).
Accordingly, the two devices were given by the International Atomic Energy Agency on the request made by the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board. The value of these devices is in the region of Rs. 23million.
The Health Ministry said the devices will expedite the process of detecting COVID-19 patients
