The Information Technology Society of Sri Lanka (ITSSL) has warned of possible privacy and online security threats to consumers from the popular portrait editing app - Faceapp.
The mobile application, available on both iOs and Android platforms, allows users to change the appearance of their portrait including options such as hair styling and gender swap.
Lately, the app has been largely trending among Sri Lankan online users.
In a statement, the ITSSL says that users could face a possible threat as the app uses facial recognition technology.
They urge users to be careful when sharing their photos with a third party as facial recognition technology is mostly used as an alternative to passwords.
They further urge users to carefully read the terms and conditions of a software before joining the trend by using it.
