Milk powder importers have reportedly requested the government to increase prices of milk powder as soon as possible.
It is said that it has been requested to increase a kilogram of imported milk powder by Rs. 100.
They have made this request citing the rise in milk powder prices in the international market and the increase of dollar value.
The average import of milk powder to Sri Lanka (as per the 2019 figures) costs US $ 312 million per year.
However, according to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka milk powder imports fell by 6.1% last year.
