Health DG Dr. Anil Jasinghe said Sri Lankans will be flown to the country leaving adequate intervals between groups (flights) to accommodate them in quarantine centres without a rush.
The DG said COVID-19 positive Sri Lankans had arrived from Kuwait, Dubai and India and therefore, hereafter Sri Lankans will be flown back to the country leaving adequate intervals between groups (flights) to accommodate them in quarantine centres without a rush.
This is in the wake of a high number of Covid-19 positive cases among those repatriated.
Dr. Jasinghe said arrangements will be made to quarantine members of airline staff flying to COVID-19 affected countries to bring back Sri Lankans.
He said this will be taken to protect airline staff and their family members and the society from COVID-19. The airline staff will be quarantined for 14 days in selected hotels or quarantine centres under the guidance of the Epidemiology Unit and health authorities.
“The country is gradually opening according to a roadmap. There is no sudden ‘full opening’ of the country. The process will take place gradually. People should strictly follow social distancing (at least one meter), wear masks properly, avoid touching face, wash hands often with soap and follow all the other health guidelines to prevent COVID-19,” he said.
