Hundreds of Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) customers are facing communication difficulties during Covid-19 crisis period as a result of the state owned entity’s action to disconnect their land phone ,peo tv and broad band connections for non payment of bills.
Around 1000 customers who failed to pay telephone and internet bills on time during the period of March to May had their phone and internet disconnected immediately.
Aggrieved customers complained that their land and broad band lines were disconnected last Friday although SLT CEO Kiththi Perera has told media that they are not resorting to any disconnections during this Covid-19 period as they understand the gravity of the prevailing situation.
With the aim of cracking down on late payers, the SLT has disconnected their land phones and internet without giving them sufficient time to settle their bills and they are without telecom services up to now because of public and Bank holidays.
SLT’s 1212 hot line is also out of service making it more difficult for customers to complain their disconnection of service.
A senior SLT official said that there were some internal system issues and it is not impacting the SLT services offered customers .
Necessary measures have been taken to continue the customer services hence customers can avail them continuously, he added.
However he noted that there may be some access limitations until internal systems problems are fully attended by SLT system experts.
They are in the process of bringing the SLT internal operations back to normalcy as soon as possible,he assured.
