Showers to increase from today

Rainy conditions in the South-western part of the island is expected to continue further today (22).

According to the Meteorology Department, showers or thundershowers have been forecast for Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces as well as in the districts of Galle and Matara with fairly heavy rainfalls around 75 mm expected at some places.

Showers or thundershowers may occur in several areas of Uva province after 02.00 pm.

Wind speeds can increase up to 50 kmph at times over the island.

General public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity and localized strong winds during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, landslide warnings issued for ten districts continues to remain in place. The warnings are in effect in the Galle, Matara, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Kegalle, Kandy, Colombo, Matale, Kurunegala and Nuwara-Eliya Districts.

Warnings have also issued for the areas of Ayagama, Elapatha, Kalawana and Kiriella in the Rathnapura district.
