Once the presidential election is announced, the Working Committee of the United National Party will decide the party candidate, minister of primary industries - Daya Gamage says.
Speaking at a religious event yesterday (16), the minister said that the UNP faced no dearth of presidential candidates and candidates from other parties posed no challenge.
Minister of Finance - Mangala Samaraweera has already said that Sajith Premadasa would be fielded as presidential candidate with the backing of PM Ranil Wickremesinghe.
It is said that the PM holds the majority power within the Working Committee.
No party decision on Sajith - Ravi
Meanwhile, minister Ravi Karunanayake too affirms that the UNP Working Committee will be selecting the party presidential candidate.
Noting that talks of Sajith Premadasa being the presidential candidate is only based in media, minister Ravi said that such a decision had not or will not take place within the party.
