Presidential election on November 23- Dullas

United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) parliamentarian Dullas Alahapperuma says it is expected that the next presidential election will be held on November 23.

Alahapperuma says the presidential election cannot be moved beyond December 09 and that the election cannot be held on the December 09 as the GCE O/L examination is scheduled to commence on December 02.

He said that the examination halls should be handed over to the Commissioner of Examinations three days before the commencement of GCE O/L examination.

Therefore, the examination halls should be handed over on November 30 and the election could only be held on November 23, he added.

Addressing a public rally held in Matara yesterday (06 July), the MP said that the government could not postpone the presidential election for any reason.

Election Commission prepping for Presidential Polls

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Sri Lanka states that the training of state officials who are on duty during the presidential election will commence next week.

The commission said it is currently preparing to hold the presidential election.

A senior official of the Election Commission said that although the provincial council election was scheduled to be held first, it was delayed due to various reasons and all arrangements have been made to hold the presidential election on time.
