Representing the progressive camp, there is speculation in the political arena that the JVP is planning on nominating former Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe as the common candidate.
The speculation is fuelled by the fact that Gamini Wijesinghe has been seen on the same stage as the JVP and both groups seem to be riding the same political stream.
Many are of the view that as the former Auditor General has been very critical about the government’s corruption during his tenure and even after retirement that he would be the best candidate to give leadership to the progressive camp as the common candidate.
However, the JVP has so far not disclosed who the common candidate might be.
