6.1-magnitude quake strikes near Nicobar Islands: Tsunami centre cautions public to be attentive

The National Tsunami Early Warning Centre at the Department of Meteorology advised that those living near and along the island's coastal area to be attentive following an earthquake to the magnitude of 6.1 in the Richter scale about 310 km (190 miles) southeast of Port Blair in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands in the Indian region.

The quake struck at a depth of 40 km.

The Department said the latest situation on this will be announced to the public through media as and when it becomes available.
