Sri Lanka's headline inflation increased to 5 percent

Sri Lanka's headline inflation as measured by the year-on-year change in the National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) increased to 5.0 per cent in September 2019 from 3.4 per cent in August 2019, Central Bank announced.

Month-on-month basis NCPI increased by 0.7 per cent in September 2019. By 25th October 2019, the All Share Price Index (ASPI) increased by1.22 per cent to 5,935.3 points and the S&P SL 20 Index increased by 1.03 per cent to 2,935.3 points this week , compared to the previous week.

Weekly AWPR for the week ending 25 October 2019 declined by 13 bps to 10.29 per cent compared to the previous week.

The reserve money decreased compared to the previous week mainly due to the decrease in currency in circulation and deposits held by the commercial banks with the Central Bank

The total outstanding market liquidity was a deficit of Rs. 1.804 bn by end of the week, compared to a deficit of Rs. 2.048 bn by the end of last week.

During the year up to 25 October 2019 the Sri Lanka rupee appreciated against the US dollar (0.9 per cent).
